The McConaghy Adastra: A Cutting-Edge Superyacht Redefining Efficiency and Luxury
The stunning superyacht Adastra isn’t just a beautiful vessel; it’s a testament to cutting-edge design and engineering, boasting exceptional fuel efficiency, remarkable seakeeping, and luxurious accommodations. This groundbreaking yacht redefines the possibilities of power trimaran design, offering a unique blend of performance and comfort.
Adastra’s expansive 16-meter beam creates a spacious and light-filled saloon on the main deck. Panoramic windows offer breathtaking views, encompassing a comfortable lounge area, a dining table, and a navigation station. A forward-facing door seamlessly connects the saloon to a large sunbed on the foredeck, perfect for soaking up the sun.
The main helm station, designed for two, is situated in a raised pilot house between the aft deck and saloon, integrated into the crossbeam structure. This elevated position provides excellent visibility for navigating this exceptional yacht.
The aft deck is designed for entertaining and relaxation, featuring a sofa and bar area to port and a dining area to starboard. Further aft, there’s dedicated space for a 4.9-meter tender, with a garage below capable of storing a 3.1-meter tender. The garage door cleverly folds out to create a spacious swim platform, enhancing the yacht’s connection to the water.
Below deck, Adastra’s innovative design maximizes space. Slight flaring of the central hull just above the waterline creates additional room, divided into two sections. A full-width master cabin, accessible from the deck saloon, offers unparalleled luxury. Forward of the engine compartment, you’ll find two guest cabins, crew accommodations, and a well-equipped galley. In total, Adastra comfortably accommodates nine guests and up to six crew members.
This superyacht prioritizes efficiency with a fully automated fuel management system, including an Alfa Laval fuel cleaning system. Its unique anchoring system features three anchors, each driven by carbon fiber drum winches powered by hydraulics. The primary anchor, a custom 130kg Bruce style, deploys from the starboard wing, while an 80kg bow anchor deploys via a carbon fiber arm, and a 60kg stern anchor is positioned in the port wing.
Lightweight construction is key to Adastra’s efficiency. The superstructure utilizes carbon fiber with a Nomex honeycomb core, the hull is a Glass/Kevlar foam sandwich, and the interior features lightweight oak cabinetry with honeycomb panels. Virtually every component, from carbon fiber hatches and portlights to ladders and hinges, is custom-built to minimize weight.
Adastra’s journey from concept to reality involved extensive research and testing. Tank testing and radio-controlled model tests in waves were crucial for optimizing stability and performance. The outrigger height and shape were carefully refined to enhance seakeeping, and state-of-the-art structural analysis ensured the yacht’s lightweight yet robust construction.
Today, the McConaghy Adastra stands as an icon, a testament to innovation and a true game-changer in the world of superyachts. It exemplifies how cutting-edge technology, meticulous design, and a focus on efficiency can create a yacht that is both luxurious and environmentally conscious.
