Westport Yachts Launches the New W117
The launch of a new superyacht is always a remarkable event, but it’s becoming increasingly rare to witness such creations in the United States. Once a powerhouse of yacht and superyacht production, shipyards like Broward, Trinity, and Palmer Johnson have faded from the scene. Therefore, it is truly exciting to celebrate the launch of the Westport 117.
Design that Evolves with the Times
The Westport 117 (W117) represents the evolution of the brand’s entry-level model, the W112 line. While the W112 series delivered nearly 100 hulls, regulatory changes aimed at reducing emissions necessitated a reimagining of the design. The additional length of the W117 (35M) allows for the integration of a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system. Many of the features clients have requested over the years are now included in this all-new model.
Key Upgrades Include:
- Built to ABS Class
- Bahamas-friendly draft of 6’4″ (1.93m)
- On-deck master stateroom
- Walk-around side decks
- Beach club
Key W117 Features:
- Fin & Gyro / Seakeeper stabilization
- CAT C32B engines with SCR system (20-knot cruise)
- Wake adaptive struts
- 5 staterooms + crew accommodations
The W117 built to ABS Class, engineered for performance, provides accommodations for 10 guests across five en suite cabins, along with space for five crew members, including the captain. The master cabin is located on the main deck and features a his-and-hers bathroom with a backlit Majelite headboard.
Interior Design Notes
Interior renderings showcase a color palette of whites and greys, accented with leather and vinyl, creating a neutral backdrop for owners to personalize their space. Premium woods such as mahogany and pomelle sapele, along with beech hardwoods in the crew quarters, enhance the luxurious feel.
Open and Spacious Salon
With a beam of 7.7 meters, the main deck salon is described as “open and spacious” by the yard. The interior dining table can be positioned aft for semi-al fresco dining. Although full details are still forthcoming, other highlights include a beach club bar and a flybridge equipped with a centerline hot tub, settees, barbecue, and bar.
Cruising
Powering the W117 are two Caterpillar C32 engines, providing a top speed of 24 knots and a cruising speed of 20 knots. Its draft of 1.9 meters allows for navigation in shallow bays and anchorages, making it ideal for the Bahamas and Caribbean.
Raised-Pilothouse Design
The raised-pilothouse design also features inviting alfresco areas. The flybridge unfolds over two levels, providing spaces for dining, cocktails, and enjoying panoramic views from an elevated observation settee. You can converse with the captain at the upper helm or the chef at the barbecue. A few steps down aft, you’ll find a hot tub and ample space for sun loungers, inviting relaxation and leisure.
American Craftsmanship
Westport Yachts prides itself on its production process, with each vessel being meticulously crafted by hand in Port Angeles, WA, and Westport, WA. This commitment to American production showcases the dedication to quality and craftsmanship that sets Westport Yachts apart.
